Does the converter support nukta letters like ज़, ड़, or फ़?

No, and that's expected rather than a bug — nukta letters exist in Hindi/Urdu for Persian-Arabic loanword sounds, but Nepali orthography doesn't use nukta, so Preeti's keyboard layout has no key for it at all. If your source text has Hindi-style nukta spellings, edit them to the plain form first (दस्तावेज instead of दस्तावेज़) — everything else converts accurately.

Does this work for both Hindi and Nepali text typed in Preeti?

Preeti was designed specifically for Nepali typing, so it works best for Nepali text. Since Preeti and Devanagari-based Hindi share the same script, most general text converts correctly, though nukta-based Hindi-specific characters are not supported (see above).

Why does my old Preeti file look like broken symbols?

What is Preeti?

Preeti is a legacy Devanagari font developed for typing Nepali text using a standard English (QWERTY) keyboard. Each English key is mapped to a specific Devanagari character or symbol — for example, pressing "j" produces "ज" and pressing "k" produces "न." This keyboard-mapping approach made it possible to type Nepali long before Unicode support existed on most computers, and it became the de facto standard across Nepal for decades, especially in newspapers, government offices, and desktop publishing.
