What is Print Quality and Why Does DPI Matter?

DPI stands for dots per inch. It measures how many pixels of your image fit in one inch of the printed output. The higher the DPI the sharper and more detailed the print will be.

For flex banner printing the standard is 72 DPI at the actual print size. This is because flex banners are typically viewed from a distance of 5 to 10 feet or more. Small banners viewed up close need 100 to 200 DPI for sharp results. Large hoardings and outdoor banners can work with 30 to 50 DPI.

Before sending your design file to the printer always check the image resolution at the actual print size. A high resolution image that looks perfect on screen may print blurry if the DPI is too low at the required banner dimensions.
